Task Breakdown List for the Cedars Project

This is the task breakdown list that anyone can sign up as a volunteer in exchange for tickets to the festival. Task sign up is on a first come first serve basis.

  • Strip Cedar Bark: Remove bark from cedar trees using tools like knives or peelers.
  • Utilize Bark (Crafts/Processing): Process cedar bark into usable items like mulch, crafts, or weaving materials.
  • Apply Japanese Burning & Pine Tar: Treat stage materials with Shou Sugi Ban (Japanese charring) and pine tar for preservation and aesthetics.
  • Build Stage: Construct a wooden stage, using cedar.
  • Plant Garden and Flowers: Dig, plant, and maintain a garden with flowers and possibly vegetables.
  • Build Pond/Aquaponics: Create a pond or aquaponics system, including digging and setting up water circulation.
  • Process Garden Surplus: Preserve or distribute excess garden produce through canning, drying, or donating.
  • Hand Out Fliers: Distribute promotional fliers to spread awareness of the project or event.
  • Make T-shirts and Apparel: Press and print merchandise like T-shirts for promotion or sale.
  • Assist in Promotional Events: Support broader outreach efforts, such as events or campaigns.
  • Build Pond Patio: Construct a flat outdoor surface using materials brick
  • Build Trellises: Craft vertical structures to support climbing plants from metal.
  • Build Infrastructure (Water Lines, Electrical, Fencing): Install water lines (e.g., irrigation), set up basic electrical (e.g., lighting or pumps), and construct fencing in designated areas.
  • Day-of Setup and Ticket Gate: Manage event-day logistics, including setup and ticketing.

Mushroom Inoculation Course

The Cedars Project is hosting its annual mushroom inoculation course. If you’d like to sign up, let us know.

Date: May 3rd
Time: 8:30am or 1pm
Location: St. Nazianz
Mushroom type: Shitakes
Cost: $30-50 (1-2 logs)

Details:
Each person will inoculate 1-2 logs that will be taken home and ready to harvest in 1-2 years.

Each person will also learn how to properly take care of the logs to ensure yearly harvest. The logs have been known to produce for up to 5 to 7 years.
